Types of Love

Summary/Response of "Types of Love"

In the article “Types of Love,” Bernard Seal states that there are five different types of love. They are ludus, storge, mania, pragma, and eros. Ludic lovers do not treat love as a serious thing; they have a partner just for fun. They do not care if a partner loves them or not, so their relationship does not last for a long time. Storgic lovers share similar interests with a partner. They rarely have problems because they do not have intensive emotion to a partner and establish relation slowly; therefore, their relationship lasts for a long time. Manic lovers are very emotional, so they think too much about a partner and their feelings go up or down easily. They always want to make sure that they are beloved by a partner. Pragma lovers have a partner who has similar personality so that they can understand each other and their needs can be satisfied. Their relationship lasts for a long time because they choose a partner carefully. Erotic lovers pay attention to looks of a partner rather than his/her internal side. They believe that love is for pleasure.

I think I am a pragmatic person because I want a partner who has similar interests and sense of value. I have had a boyfriend who had different sense of value. He always denied my opinion or action. I was often irritated with him and we broke up soon. It is impossible to have a relationship with such a person for a long time. Though it is difficult to find a partner who can really understand me and share sense of value with me, I hope I can find him. I think pragma love is the best type of love for marriage. My parents are good models of this type. I have never seen my parents argue. I think it’s because they understand each other very well and share pleasure, sadness, suffering and so on. They enjoy sharing their interests, and they live at peace. I have watched my parents develop this good relationship since I was a little kid. So pragmatic love is my ideal type of love.
